2024 Military Pay Charts

Updated: September 25, 2023
In this Article

A 5.2% military pay increase is potentially on the horizon, starting January 1, 2024. The House of Representatives has approved the raise as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

However, at this time, no defense spending bill has been signed into law, so pay rates are not official. So content below could possibly change if talks spur changes to any defense spending bills.

As of right now, the Senate and U.S. House of Representatives both have versions of the NDAA they agree on, but since no official spending legislation has approved both houses of Congress, nothing is official.

If lawmakers can’t agree on a defense spending plan before the end of September, a government shutdown will put a pause on finding out exact pay raises. It will also likely delay paychecks for some military members. We will continue to follow this budget situation to better inform you on the information that will affect you.

According to a House version of the NDAA, Service members in the Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Space Force, Navy, and Reserves would all be eligible and should receive their paychecks on these dates. For more details about how much you can expect to receive for your grade and years of service, review the charts below!

    Additional 2024 Military Pay Notes

On top of the numerous other monetary military benefits, such as allowances and reenlistment bonuses, military basic pay is a consistent source of income for service members. These pay charts are calculated based on the agreements made in the 2024 Department of Defense Budget.

Furthermore, the figures mentioned in the charts above do not account for additional allowances military members may receive, such as Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS)
