Updated: March 15, 2023

The InterContinental Hotels and Resorts (IHG) brand is a world-renowned lodging leader that offers business and vacation travelers budget and high-end options, including luxurious and modern rooms, exquisite dining options, outstanding service, and unforgettable experiences.

There are 18 brands in more than 100 countries under the IHG umbrella. That translates to 6,000+ global properties and more than 900,000 rooms in some of the most iconic cities around the globe.

The good news is that the InterContinental Hotels and Resorts brand offers discounts for active duty, veterans, and dependent military travelers. With accommodations that suit military members’ travel goals, business needs, and lifestyles, including family-friendly destinations worldwide, you can find the perfect place to fit your travel needs.

The Military Discount Rate at IHG Hotels

IHG welcomes U.S. government and military personnel with hotel deals and discounts at over 3,000 U.S. Government Service Agency participating hotels worldwide. In addition, IHG also offers discounts at more than three dozen participating IHG hotels on post at military installations for added convenience.

For official travel, civilians, military and defense contractors can get hotel rooms at GSA-negotiated government rates. The General Service Administration (GSA) publishes these rates annually, representing the maximum the government will reimburse you per night, not including taxes.

The U.S. Government rate is available at participating hotels to the following personnel on official travel:

  • Military personnel include active duty, veterans, and their dependents
  • All government employees, including federal, state, county, and local levels
  • Defense or Cost Reimbursable Contractors (CRCs)
  • State-funded higher education universities and healthcare facilities

Check out the GSA’s per diem lookup tool here to ensure you’re getting the correct GSA rate. If the per diem rate isn’t available online, you can book by calling IHG at 1-877-424-2449.

For vacation, you can obtain IHG veteran discounts and military leisure rates when you book online or by phone. To book these rates online, filter rooms by “government/military rate” when you search bookings and choose a room with the military leisure option.

You must show a military or veteran identification card at check-in to prove your status.

What to know about IHG On-Post hotels

As of early 2023, IHG has 76 hotels on 40 Army posts across the United States. IHG Army Hotels provide the same quality accommodations on-post as you’ll find at off-post hotels. To receive your discounted rate, present official identification or work orders when you check in at participating hotels, many of which also offer special amenities for government travelers.

IHG Army Hotels welcomes active duty service members and their families, military retirees, DOD employees, and military contractors. Most locations are also pet friendly.

Individual hotels control the Government Discount Rate, which is a percentage off the IHG Best Flex Rate. The Best Flexible Rate is the best and least restrictive publicly available rate for that room type at the time of reservation.

While lower rates may be available, they will require payment at the time of booking, a minimum length of stay, or will be non-refundable. Changes to your reservation are usually acceptable, but always check the hotel’s cancellation policy before booking for cancellation fees that may apply depending upon arrival date and hotel selected.

Each post has requirements to enter. If you’re planning a stay, check with individual installations for up-to-date access requirements.

You can also check the Post Access Contact List before your visit to find the latest requirements.
