USAG Detroit Arsenal History
Originally the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant (DATP), it paved the way for tank mass production in the U.S. during World War II. Producing M3 Lee and M4 Sherman tanks, it accounted for a quarter of all U.S. tanks during the war. While Chrysler initiated operations, General Dynamics Land Systems later took over, producing the M1 Abrams tank until 1996. Now, it remains operational, focusing on ground vehicle systems management.
