    Peterson Space Force Base History

    Peterson Space Force Base once served as an air support base for Camp Carson. Army Air Forces trained and supported Cold War air defense centers at the installation. The base underwent significant transformations, including its renaming from Peterson Air Force Base to Peterson Space Force Base in July 2021, reflecting its prominent role in the new space service.

    Peterson Space Force Base Surrounding Area

    Peterson Space Force Base lies within Colorado Springs, Colorado’s second-largest city. Nearby, you’ll find the U.S. Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, Fort Carson Army Post, and Schriever Space Force Base.

    Note: There are no emergency services at the facility. For an ER, there are several nearby hospitals can assist during emergencies.


    The Peterson SFB base offers two main Child Development Centers (CDCs) for childcare. Each center offers full day care for infants, toddlers and preschool aged children. There are also school care options during the school year for students.


    El Paso County encompasses ten school districts, with seven located in the urban areas of Colorado Springs and the remaining three in Woodland Park, Palmer Lake, and Monument. Notable districts in the area are Falcon District 49 and Colorado Springs School District 11.
