    The base is situated at the northern end of the Virginia Peninsula, bordered by the York River, Colonial National Historic Park, York County, City of Newport News, and James City County. The station is in close proximity to several other military bases including Naval Station Norfolk, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, and Naval Air Station Oceana.
