It underscored the imperative for a strategic, safe location for ammunition storage and handling, proximate to the bustling New York metropolitan area yet distanced from densely populated regions.

    Evolution marks Earle’s trajectory, notably celebrated by its transition from the Naval Ammunition Depot Earle to Naval Weapons Station Earle in 1974. Today, it sustains its foundational role and has embraced sustainable practices, hosting New Jersey’s largest solar farm, the Ben Moreell Solar Farm.

    The surrounding area is characterized by an upscale community of horse farms, fruit orchards and country estates. The base itself is set within over 11,000 acres of mostly wooded land, providing a serene and beautiful environment.

    Nearby towns include Colts Neck and Middletown, both offering a range of amenities and attractions. The base is also about a two-hour drive to the greater New York metropolitan area. Outdoor and recreational attractions in the area include the beautiful Sandy Hook Bay, which offers opportunities for water sports and fishing.


    Naval Weapon Station Earle offers on-base medical services at Naval Weapons Station Earle Branch Medical Clinic. The clinic offers routine care for active duty members, dependents, and retirees aged 21 to 65. The fully accredited clinic ensures quality health care but has no on-site pharmacy. Dental services at NWS Earle are exclusively for active-duty military.

    Note: The base lacks an emergency room—those services are provided by Jersey Shore Medical Center.


    The Naval Weapons Station Earle offers a variety of childcare options through its Child Development Center. It offers full-day, part-day and hourly care programs to be flexible for parents. Care is offered for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children.
