    Naval Air Station Patuxent River Surrounding Area

    NAS Pax River is situated on the Chesapeake Bay near the mouth of the Patuxent River, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding area. The station is about an hour drive southeast of Washington, D.C. an hour and a half drive south of Baltimore. The nearby town of Lexington Park provides local amenities and services.

    The station is surrounded by a wealth of outdoor and recreational attractions. The region is also rich in historical and cultural sites, including the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum and the historic plantations of Mattapony, Susquehanna and Cedar Point.


    On-post medical services are comprehensive and include a variety of clinics and specialty care options. The Naval Health Clinic at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River offers a wide range of services from general health care to dental services.


    The Naval Air Station Patuxent River offers a comprehensive Child Development Program through its Child Development Centers. These centers, located at 22027 Cuddihy Road, Building 2813, provide full-day care from Monday to Friday.

    There are no Department of Defense schools on station. Two public school districts serve the Pax River region. They are St. Mary’s County Public Schools and Calvert County Public Schools.
