What kind of base is Naval Air Station Kingsville?
NAS Kingsville is a premier jet aviation training location for the U.S. Navy. The base houses Training Air Wing Two and multiple tenant commands, with a workforce comprising around 300 officers, 200 enlisted members, 350 civilians, and 625 contract maintenance workers. The base utilizes the advanced Boeing T-45 Goshawk aircraft for training. Additionally, the annual Wings Over South Texas Air Show takes place here.
Naval Air Station Kingsville History
Founded in 1942 as the Naval Auxiliary Air Station (NAAS) Kingsville, the base initially functioned as an auxiliary to the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. It played a pivotal role in World War II pilot training. In 1968, its designation shifted to NAS Kingsville. While it formerly supported both bomber and fighter training, it became an exclusive jet training facility in 1960, pioneering the use of the Boeing T-45 Goshawk for Navy training.
Naval Air Station Kingsville Housing
Upon reporting to Kingsville, all military personnel should check in at the Housing Service Center on the ground floor of Unaccompanied Housing.
NAS Kingsville does not offer government-family housing. Instead, it has a Public-Private Venture (PPV) called “Hunter’s Cove.” Both military and civilian members occupy this area. Hunter’s Cove provides three and 4-bedroom units 5-10 minutes from the base, near shopping and schools.
Living in Building 3755 on base is an option for Single Service members. It houses 42 service members, with room accommodations based on rank and space. This building also serves as the weekday check-in point between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
