    Naval åAir Station Fallon (NAS Fallon) is the U.S. Navy’s leading training facility for air-to-air and air-to-ground combat, based southeast of Fallon in western Nevada. It’s home to the renowned U.S. Navy-Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC). NAS Fallon also hosts Navy SEAL Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) training and spans 240,000 acres, equipped for bombing and electronic warfare.

    Naval Air Station Fallon History

    Established in 1942, NAS Fallon was initially part of a defense network against potential Japanese threats but soon transitioned to a Navy training base. Significant developments include its 1972 upgrade to a major aviation command and housing the Strike Fighter Squadron 127, or “Desert Bogeys,” from 1987-1996. In 1996, TOPGUN moved from NAS Miramar to NAS Fallon, prompting the construction of new infrastructure.

    NAS Fallon offers 225 family housing units managed by Liberty Military Housing. While base residency fluctuates, over 3,000 active-duty personnel, civilian workers, and DoD contractors live here. Off-base housing is an alternative, but options in Fallon might be limited and pricier.

    How to Apply For Housing

    To apply for housing at a military base, the first step is to contact the Naval Air Station Fallon Installation Address at 775-426-2710.  If you are married or a single parent and are bringing your family, you should plan on having $3,500.00 to $5,000.00 in cash and/or travelers checks for start-up expenses including rental and security deposits, utility deposits, and other initial costs.

    The housing application package for NAS Fallon, along with a comprehensive set of orders and Page 2, can be submitted through postal mail, email, fax, or in-person delivery.  To be eligible for local move funding, service members need to apply for housing within 30 days of their check-in at NAS Fallon.

    PCS and TDY Lodging

    Navy Lodge Fallon at 4755 Pasture Road offers accommodations for temporary stays. Reserve a room by calling 775-426-2818 or 800-628-9466. It operates daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but there may be restrictions due to its Navy Exchange location. Be sure to ask about pet accommodations.

    Naval Air Station Fallon Surrounding Area

    The nearby Lahontan Valley and Dixie Valley offer a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, and camping. Historical sites, ghost towns, and old mines in the area provide a glimpse into Nevada’s old west history. The base is also within an hour’s drive of Carson City, Nevada’s state capital, and Reno, known for its 24-hour entertainment.

    Healthcare

    The on-site Naval Branch Health Clinic provides outpatient and pharmacy services. It operates from Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Fridays, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. For emergencies, local hospitals are available.

    Childcare

    The Naval Air Station Fallon has one facility that offers a variety of childcare services for a broad range of students. It’s located at 4755 Pasture Road, Building 1001 on Juniper Drive. The Fallon Child Development Center offers Full-day and part-day care for infant, pre-toddler, preschool and toddler aged children. There is also the Fallon School Age Care Program, offering School Year Care as well as Summer Camp for school-aged children.

    Schooling

    Churchill County hosts five public schools and the Oasis Academy Charter School. For registration, contact the School Liaison Program at 619-417-7608 or 775-426-3777, available Monday to Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. They’ll assist with enrollment procedures and necessary documentation.
