What Kind of Base is Naval Air Station Everett?
Naval Station Everett is a homeport for a US Navy carrier strike group and sits strategically on the city’s waterfront at Puget Sound’s northeastern end. It houses seven guided-missile destroyers, a Coast Guard Keeper-class cutter, and a USCG Marine Protector-class patrol boat. Approximately 6,000 sailors and civil service personnel call this base home. The base also oversees the Navy Support Complex in Smokey Point, which offers services like a commissary, Navy Exchange, and a college.
Naval Air Station Everett History
Introduced under the Strategic Homeport concept, Naval Station Everett became operational on April 8, 1994, taking over from the former Naval Station Puget Sound. The USS Ingraham and USS Ford were the first ships stationed here in 1994, followed by several destroyers over the next two years. In June 2021, the Navy designated Naval Station Everett as the upcoming base for 12 Constellation-class frigates, with the USS Constellation set for delivery in 2026.
