    Minot AFB History

    Inaugurated on January 10, 1957, Minot AFB initially functioned as an Air Defense Command base. By the 1960s, it evolved into a key Strategic Air Command base, housing nuclear-capable missiles, and bombers. Post-1992, its nuclear mission split between the Air Force Space Command and the Air Combat Command. However, 2009 saw the consolidation of these missions under AFGSC.
