    Situated 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, Eielson Air Force Base is a pivotal component of the United States Air Force (USAF). The 354th Fighter Wing, part of the Eleventh Air Force of the Pacific Air Forces, operates from this base.

    What Kind of Base is Eielson AFB?

    The base provides a simulated combat environment for joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close-air support, and large-force employment training for U.S. Forces. It also hosts RED FLAG-Alaska, a set of advanced field training exercises directed by the Pacific Air Forces commander.

    It’s an essential installation for the F-35 program, which stationed 54 Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II combat aircraft at the base.

    Eielson Air Force Base Housing

    All personnel must report to the Military Housing Office within two days of arrival. Mayroad is the company that owns, manages and constructs housing on-base. Unaccompanied personnel, who are grades E1-E4 are required to live in dormitories.

    PCS and TDY Lodging

    Temporary lodging is available for both Temporary Duty (TDY) and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) personnel at the Eielson Lodging Office – Goldrush Inn. To make a reservations, call 907-377-1844.

    Eielson Air Force Base Surrounding Area

    Eielson Air Force Base (AFB) is located approximately 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, and just southeast of Moose Creek, Alaska. The base is situated in the region known as ‘Interior Alaska’, where temperatures can range from 95 degrees in the summer to -60 degrees in extreme winter conditions. The nearby town of North Pole, known for its year-round Christmas spirit, is just 8 miles away and offers basic services such as grocery stores, dining options, community service organizations, parks, and churches. The base is surrounded by a wealth of outdoor and recreational attractions, including hiking trails, fishing spots, canoeing routes, dog mushing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The area is also renowned for its spectacular Northern Lights displays.

    Healthcare

    On-base medical services are provided at the 354 Medical Group Clinic. It offers primary care, and dental care is offered to active duty service members only.

    Note: There is no emergency services available at Eielson AFB. For those needing inpatient care, head to Bassett Army Community Hospital at Fort Wainwright.

    Childcare

    The Eielson Air Force Base offers a comprehensive Child Development Center (CDC) for children of various age groups. It offers full day, 24/7, and extended care. Services are available for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children.
