What kind of base is Dugway Proving Ground?
DPG, founded in 1942, also tests defense equipment using CB agents and stimulants. Other specialties include testing battlefield smoke and obscurants. Under the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC), the base has expanded to conduct nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) survivability tests and training.
Dugway Proving Ground Housing
Key and essential military personnel must live on post at Dugway Proving Ground, typically in the mountain view units. As a result, these individuals forfeit their basic housing allowance. However, exceptions might be available for geographical bachelors living in bachelor quarters with permission from the DPG commander. While civilian employees can choose between on-post and off-post housing, the nearest town, Tooele, is a 45 to 60-minute drive away. Other housing options are in Salt Lake City and cities along the Wasatch Front, with commute times ranging from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Additionally, Dugway is part of the Utah Transit Authority vanpool program.
