Updated: September 22, 2023Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA), commonly known as Camp Parks, resides in Dublin, California just outside San Francisco. This U.S. Army base primarily serves as a training hub for Army Reserve personnel, readying them for potential war scenarios and natural disasters. Established during World War II, Camp Parks transitioned from a Naval Construction Battalion recuperation center to an Air Force basic training center during the Korean War. Now, it’s a pivotal training space for over 11,000 Army Reserve Soldiers in the San Francisco Bay Area. It’s also the site for the Federal Correctional Institute, Dublin, and lies adjacent to Santa Rita Jail.

Camp Parks California History
- Founded in 1942 for Naval Construction Battalions.
- Leased to Alameda County for Santa Rita Jail (1946-1951).
- Became an Air Force training center in 1951, named Parks Air Force Base.
- Returned to the U.S. Army in 1959, focusing on Reserve Components training.

Camp Parks California Surrounding Area
The post is nestled in the eastern reaches of the San Francisco Bay Area, near the city of Livermore. It is conveniently located near the intersection of Interstate Highways 580 and 680, making it easily accessible. The surrounding area offers a variety of outdoor and recreational attractions, including the scenic San Francisco Bay and numerous parks and hiking trails. It’s location also makes a California’s famous Napa Valley within driving distance.
