What Kind of Base is Beale Air Force Base?
Beale AFB is home to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing, which operates the Lockheed U-2 “Dragon Lady” and Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft. The 940th Air Refueling Wing from the Air Force Reserve Command also operates the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker here.

Established in 1942 as Camp Beale, it was renamed Beale Air Force Base in 1951. The base has hosted notable units like the 4126th Strategic Wing and the 456th Bombardment Wing.

Housing caters to 3,364 active-duty members, 5,272 family members, 1,017 civilians, 3,094 contractors, 1,248 reservists, guardsmen, and around 35,000 retirees. Single E1-E3 airmen stay in dormitories.

Beale Air Force Base Surrounding Area
Beale AFB sits in Yuba County, surrounded by towns like Marysville and Yuba City. Attractions include:

Beale AFB is roughly a two-and-a-half hour drive from San Francisco. It’s an hour drive north of Sacramento, the state capital of California. Napa Valley is roughly 2 hours west of the base.
Healthcare
The base provides diverse medical services through the 9th Medical Group, operating weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It serves active-duty members and their dependents, offering routine appointments, immunizations, and more. Note: For emergencies, the Adventist Health and Rideout in Marysville is nearby.
Childcare
The Beale AFB Child Development Center (CDC) operates weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering full-day, part-day, and hourly care services. It caters to infants through school-aged children, with flexible programs for varying needs.
Schooling
An on-base elementary school serves Kindergarten through 5th Grade, benefiting both base and nearby community residents. Older students attend Bear River Middle School and Wheatland High School in the neighboring Wheatland community.
