    Located next to Aberdeen in Harford County, Maryland, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) is the U.S. Army’s oldest active proving ground, established in 1917. Today, it is a testing hub for defense systems, pioneering advanced instrumentation and methodologies. APG is a significant military research and development site, home to 7,500 civilians, 5,000 military personnel, and 11 key commands, including the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, Combat Capabilities Development Command, and Test and Evaluation Command.

    PCS and TDY Lodging

    The Swan Creek Inn at Aberdeen Proving Ground offers temporary lodging for incoming personnel.

    APG collaborates with local hotels for military-friendly rates. Other options for temporary lodging include the IHG Candlewood Suites.

    Aberdeen Proving Ground Surrounding Area

    APG, nestled near the Chesapeake Bay, is between three major metropolitan areas. It’s an hour drive from Baltimore, and a two-hour drive from both Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.

    Healthcare

    On-post medical services are primarily provided through the KIRK U.S. Army Health Clinic. It is a treatment facility within the Walter Reed Health Care System. The services it offers: Pediatrics, physical therapy, general medicine, optometry, occupational health, and behavioral health. Note: There is no emergency services available on post.

    Childcare

    APG hosts three Child Development Centers (CDCs), two of which provide full day care to infants, toddlers and preschool aged children. One CDC offers school year care for students.

    Schooling

    Aberdeen Proving Ground doesn’t have on-post. Children on APG North attend Roye-Williams Elementary, Aberdeen Middle, or Aberdeen High School. Those on APG South or Edgewood Area go to Edgewood Elementary, Middle, or High School. Cecil County Public Schools, north of Harford County, are also nearby.
