    What Kind of Base is Patrick Space Force Base?

    Patrick Space Force Base is home to Space Launch Delta 45, which oversees all unmanned rocket launches at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and the Eastern Range. It also hosts the Air Force Technical Applications Center, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute and the 920th Rescue Wing.

    Patrick Space Force Base History

    Established in 1940 as Naval Air Station Banana River, the base transitioned to the U.S. Air Force in 1948. It was renamed Patrick Air Force Base in 1950 and united with Cape Canaveral Space Force Station under the Eastern Space and Missile Center in 1979.

    In 2020, it became part of the first installations of the U.S. Space Force. It continues to be a central component of U.S. space missions and defense operations.

    How to Apply For Housing

    To apply for housing at Patrick Space Force Base, you’ll first need to contact the Military Housing Office (MHO) at 321-494-2594. Next, you’ll likely need to reach out to Patrick Family Housing (number in bold, above) for additional assistance.

    PCS and TDY Lodging

    At the military base, temporary lodging is available at the Space Coast Inn. It’s along Falcon Avenue. It is open 24/7 and can be reached at 321-494-6590 for reservations. Both Temporary Duty (TDY) and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) personnel are accommodated.

    Patrick Space Force Base Surrounding Area

    Patrick Space Force Base is between Satellite Beach and Cocoa Beach. It is situated on a barrier island with the Banana River to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Nearby towns include Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Palm Bay and Titusville.

    The base is known as the “Space Coast” due to its proximity to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The area offers a range of outdoor and recreational attractions, including beautiful beaches, fishing, boating and wildlife viewing.

    Healthcare

    On-base medical services are offered at the Patrick SFB Hospital Medical Clinic via the 45th Medical Group. It consists of three units: itself, the 45th Healthcare Operations Squadron, and the 45th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron. The 45th Medical Group Clinic provides basic services in family practice, flight medicine, pediatrics, and physical therapy.

    Note: Patrick Space Force Base does not have an emergency room.

    Childcare

    There is one Child Development Center (CDC) on-base. It offers full day, part day and hourly care services. These centers are specifically designed to accommodate children of various age ranges, from infants to school-aged children.

    Schooling
