    Just two miles from Yuma, Arizona, MCAS Yuma’s primary goal is to support aerial weapons training for Atlantic and Pacific Fleet Marine Forces and Navy. Additionally, it serves as the home base for several F-35B Lightning II squadrons, Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1), and other units. This station also collaborates with Yuma International Airport as a joint-use civilian-military airport.

    Air Station Yuma History

    It was first known as Fly Field in 1928 and transitioned to Yuma Army Airfield during World War II. After closing briefly in 1945, it reopened in 1954 as a training facility and was later named Vincent Air Force Base in 1956.

    MCAS Yuma offers more than 800 homes. Nearly 700 are located on-station. At the 16th Street Family Housing Complex, apartment-style units are seven miles from the station.     PCS and TDY Lodging

    Marine Corps Air Station Yuma offers temporary lodging for active-duty members, families, retirees, and guests at the Inns of the Corps facility. It’s located two blocks inside the main gate at Building 1088. Dozens of rooms feature kitchenettes with two queen beds. Adjoining rooms and pet-friendly options are available. All rooms include free WiFi. It accepts reservations roughly 90 days in advance. PCS families can book up to a year ahead, prioritizing those with PCS orders.     Air Station Yuma Surrounding Area

    MCAS Yuma is situated in the southwest corner of Arizona. It’s roughly a three hour drive from San Diego and Phoenix. Yuma boasts recreational attractions and historical landmarks, and it’s year-round warm weather makes it a tourist destination in the winter. It’s close to the U.S./Mexico border, providing opportunities for international travel.

    Healthcare

    The Branch Health Clinic offers outpatient care to active-duty service members. Depending on resources, family members, retirees, and their families can also receive care on an enrollment basis. Inpatient care for active duty is available locally or at Naval Centers in San Diego and Camp Pendleton. The clinic operates Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. To schedule, call 928-269-2700.

    Note: No ER services are offered on-station. In an emergency, got to the local Yuma Regional Medical Center. Only active-duty military can use the dental clinic.

    Childcare

    The station offers at lease one Child Development Centers (CDCs). They offer full day care for infants, toddlers and preschool aged children. There are also school year care options for students.

    Schooling

    Elementary, middle, and high schools are located off-station various Yuma public school districts. Children living on the installation attend schools in town. For more information, call the School Liaison at 928-269-5373.
