Hunter Army Airfield

Established in September 1929, it played a significant role as a helicopter training site during the Vietnam War. Currently, HAAF hosts aviation units of the 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Stewart and accommodates around 5,500 service personnel.

Hunter Army Airfield Housing
Hunter AAF provides on-post living. Balfour Beatty Communities manages the housing. Living areas span over five neighborhoods with options from 2-4 bedrooms in various styles. There are no mobile home parks are on-site, and the government offers no leased community housing for soldiers.
Applying for Housing
- Applications can be accessed and submitted online. Alternatively, you can print the application from the website and fax it to our office.
- When you arrive at Fort Stewart, bring the following to the housing office: military I.D., Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), copy of orders, and the DEERS form or birth certificates for all residing children.
- Rent is set to match the soldier’s basic housing allowance (BAH) for their rank.

Tuttle Army Health Clinic, on the installation, provides care to active duty soldiers, their families, retirees, and their dependents. Note: Hunter Army Airfield does not have emergency room care. Childcare
HAAF offers several options for childcare. It has at least four Child Development Centers on post. With most of them providing full day care for infants, toddlers, preschooler and school-aged children. There is also a program that offers school year program from students.
Schooling
While HAAF lacks DoDEA schools, Savannah and its vicinity feature multiple public and private institutions. The main public school districts include Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Effingham County Schools, and Bryan County Schools.
