Strategically situated approximately 15 miles north of the Mexico border, Fort Huachuca is instrumental in border security. The base also collaborates with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), hosting a radar-equipped aerostat to monitor and detect low-flying aircraft infiltrating the United States from Mexico.

What Kind of Base is Fort Huachuca?
Fort Huachuca is a bastion of education and military intelligence, offering myriad training programs and annually educating over 9,000 students from various services. The commitment to rigorous training programs like the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Leadership Course and the Warrant Officer Basic and Advanced Courses ensures the preparation of proficient soldiers.
It also houses other units such as the Joint Interoperability Test Command and the Electronic Proving Ground.

Fort Huachuca Housing
Fort Huachuca offers on-post housing options for service members. Michaels Military Housing operates the construction of on-post housing. Currently, there’s an effort to add more on-post housing options. Jillden Realty Management Company manages the housing on-post.
There’s also off-post housing options in the surrounding area of Sierra Vista.

PCS and TDY Lodging
Temporary lodging at the military base offers a variety of options for both Temporary Duty (TDY) and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) personnel. Reservations can be made by contacting the IHG Army Lodging at Fort Huachuca. just call 520-533-2222.

Fort Huachuca Surrounding Area
Fort Huachuca is nestled in the southeastern corner of Arizona, in Cochise County. The base is approximately 15 miles north of the Mexican border and adjacent to the town of Sierra Vista. The surrounding area is characterized by the stunning Huachuca Mountains, offering scenic vistas and outdoor recreational opportunities. Nearby towns include Hereford and Huachuca City, each offering a small-town ambiance.
Healthcare
On-post medical services are available at the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center. The center offers primary care and has a pharmacy.
Note: There is no emergency services provided at Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center. All emergency cases should be taken to a local hospital in the nearby community.
Childcare
On-post childcare options are available at three Child Development Centers (CDCs). One offers full day care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Another center offers part day care for only preschoolers. Finally, the third center offers a school year care for students while school is in-session.
Schooling
Fort Huachuca Accommodation Schools, located on the installation, operate as Arizona public schools under federal and state law, consisting of two elementary and one middle school. They serve around 1,500 students with 91 teachers and offer bus transportation, lunch services, an exceptional children’s program, and special needs provisions. Early release occurs every Thursday between 1:15 and 1:45 p.m. High school students attend Buena High School in Sierra Vista, and optional on-post attendance is available for military children living in Sierra Vista.
