Table of Contents

Celebrate the Fourth of July with these Independence day and patriotic movies. We’ve got you covered with comedies, dramas, action flicks and yes even a musical that celebrates America’s independence. Here is our list of the best patriotic movies to sit and enjoy this Independence Day.

    Independence Day

At one point the second highest world-wide grossing movies and still one of the highest grossing July 4th weekend opening movies of all time. It’s the perfect guilty pleasure and despite it’s flaws and cheesy moments it is a true blockbuster entertaining time.

    The Patriot

Set during the American revolution, The Patriot focuses on a family drawn into the revolutionary war. It’s a combination of Hollywood epic, great battle scenes and a suspect plot that is nonetheless a great watch.

    Top Gun

It’s been over 25 years since Top Gun’s release but it’s one those movies you can watch over and over. Plus the cast isn’t too shabby with Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan and many others. It’s like Steve McQueen’s classic film Bullit where they race through the streets of San Francisco. That won’t be allowed again and the U.S. military no longer allows filming on base like they did with Top Gun.

    Captain America: The First Avenger

The newest movie on this list but it’s an easy one, it’s called Captain America and it was a blockbuster, no brainer. It’s a great superhero movie and perfect for around July 4th.

    Air Force One

A perfectly crafted action thriller featuring the president, Harrison Ford, as a butt kicking action hero. Even non-action movie fans will enjoy this one.

    Forrest Gump

1994’s movie of the year when it beat out another timeless classic, Shawshank Redemption. This movie is good as good does. Tom Hanks is masterful in a tall tale about a dim-witted boy who journey’s through American history.

It’s a musical based on the events leading up to July 4, 1776. First released in 1972 it’s got some legs on it but for many it’s a July 4th tradition to play each year. Great way to indoctrinate the kids towards understanding the events that lead to Independence.

    Independence Day Resurgence

This sequel is missing Will Smith but it’s still a great action sequel in the Independence Day series.
