Cape Canaveral Space Force Station History
CCSFS, established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949 as the Joint Long Range Proving Ground, has launched milestone missions, including the first U.S. Earth satellite, astronaut, and the inaugural spacecraft to exit the Solar System. Formerly known as Cape Kennedy Air Force Station and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, it adopted its current name in December 2020.
