We were heading east in the Mediteranean Sea. It was a NATO excersise, "Operation Deep Furow '73". Approximately mid October. We had left Athens and were on our way to Turkey. We were in a resupply formation. The ship behind me was either an Ammo ship or food supply ship. It's been 34 years.
The ship behind you
is the USS Mount Baker AE-34. Ammunition ship. The 'E' on the stern identifies it as an ammunition ship, the '34' is the hull number.
AE = Ammunition ship
AO = Oiler
AFS = food stores and supplies
AOE = Fast Combat Stores (serves as an oiler, ammo and food stores supply ship)
