My dad sat out there in the field from 73-77. I was a teen then and remember how much of a kick I got out of seeing the convoys returning from deployments. I was already 6 feet tall then but I was dwarfed by the M757 haulers. The drivers were eight feet up and separated by so much space they probably needed a phone to talk to each other.

It was a high point of my father's career and his final tour in uniform. He got his silver and gold pickles. For me it was the best time of my life. I sometimes regret going Navy blue instead of Army green. Odds were high I would have returned to Germany shortly after school.

It wasn't entirely my fault, though. The Army didn't recruit me after my test scores came back. They said 96 was too high for them. I think they missed the easiest sale of their life. 17 years as a dependant and 3 yrs of AJROTC should have given them a clue of my intention.

I won't disagree with that statement. AJ

A Day and Life of a Pershing Crewman 15E 1985

Howdy, I was with the 1/81st -PERSHING-, NEU ULM from 76 to 79. Did you get a pickle? That was one of the greatest unit's that I served in in my 20 years.AJ
